We tend to have the perception that film or video is a true rendering of life's events and that a photograph functions as either a still-life or the emotional embodiment of a single moment in time. My art aims to play with these notions. I am interested in the textures created by re-photographing snapshots and the sense of motion created by combining still photographs.
Most of my work starts out as 35mm prints developed by a 1-hour lab. Some of my pictures never leave this stage. A lot of my prints get photographed, filmed, or combined with others to elevate them from being mere snapshots to something more interesting a still picture that recalls video or film. When I take the snapshots I never think about where they might end up, and it is only when I look at the prints that I want to make them move. Ive always dreamt about making movies, but somehow I got stuck on 35mm pictures with an old Canon camera. I bought a digital video camera determined to start making short films, but I ended up filming my snapshots, taking stills from video and photographing the video screen.
